| Well, your sister should be better with it but at least she's not like my neighbor. He was walking up the small steps on his porch when his little dog started running to see him. He stepped on the little puppy and when she went running to the door to get away, he started to laugh! D8 He may be seven years old but once he came home crying like a two year old! Either way, tell your mother. If your sister is going to be like that, she shouldn't be the trainer. I'm the trainer with my dog, yet I take responsible care with him.
What you should do: Tell your mom/dad Explain you should be the one to train him/her
Talk to your sister about: What kind of training the dog needs Be firm yet kind
Let your parents decide who will be training the dog. If two or more, the dog will be confused. Its your choice but I'd refrain with the baby talk for some dogs find this very offensive.
It worked for me so you might want to do: Buy a clicker A harness may work at first
PM me if you have any questions |

| The dog doesn't need to be in the trainers room. You're just spoiling the thing then. Put it in the living room/ kitchen/ laundry room. (We put ours in the laundry room when we had one.)
The one that is home the most should train the dog. Dogs like attention and will listen better to the person that gives them the most. So maybe you should tell your parents that, because once school starts your parents will probaly be home way more than you. It would be unpleasant for them to have a dog that won't listen to them when you or your sister isn't around. Plus you know for shure that you and your sister get even time with the dog. _____________________ | Quote: | Kazumi couldn't help but feel a bit nervous around Cody. | I understand where you're coming from, but taking care of a dog is hard work. It's not just something that's fun to do at first, and then when you get tired of it, you can give up the responsibilites. Dogs, especially puppies, are like babies. They're demanding, they make you drop everything to cater to them, and they can't tell you what they need; you have to be able to figure it out for yourself.
I wouldn't recommend getting another dog. At least, not until the first one is used to your family, or vice versa. It's twice the work, and not to mention the cost of raising a pet. It's not just the initial cost of the puppy that you need to worry about, it's all the extra stuff: dog food, vet visits, rabies tags and vaccinations, etc etc. Vet visits cost my family about $300 every time we take our two dogs. And that's just routine checkups.
But, if you want to help take care of the dog, see if you and your sister can share the responsibilities. Maybe one of you takes the dog out in the morning, the other one in the afternoon. Or you could feed it. There's a lot of work in taking care of a dog, so I'm sure you could find something to help out with. |

| Yes, the dog should have only one master, who's usually the person who feeds and walks it, but it should respond to anybody else. You don't necessarily have to be the master in order to help out. It'd be good to learn how to do it, in case your sister was gone for the night or something.
If your sister is older than you, that might be why she gets to take care of it primarily. |

| Nah, I understand. I've got two of 'em. ^^ Dogs are pack animals; even if your sister is the one taking care of it as far as feeding, walking, etc, there's no reason the dog won't love you just as much. Think of it this way: you get all the benefits of having a dog, without any of the chores that go with it. ^^ And if you really, really want to chip in, just tell your parents that you want to help out, like taking him out before you go to school in the morning or something. There's an expression, "It takes a village to raise a child." Well, it takes a house to take care of a dog. ^^ |

Agreed entirely.
Just because the dog would stay in her room doesn't mean it's just her dog. It's the whole family's, and it's all of your responsibilities really. I would know, I have four. Along with three cats and a bird. >.> If you show it more affection then it will show more affection you. Like my puppy, my massive Bernese Mountain puppy, may sleep in my mom's room but he follows me around a lot, I'm the only one he will go for a walk with.
Now, be happy it's not a cat, otherwise, the cat would most likely be confined to her room, like I grew up with my cats and my oldest stays with me because I was the one who took care of her. But even if you show more affection and love towards the dog, it has a mind of it's own and will go where it pleases as it gets older. So don't worry if the dog stays in her room, it'll just whine at night to have attention and she'll be the one losing sleep. No skin off your bones. |

| In fact, consider it a good thing the dog sleeps in your sister's room. Whenever mine sleeps in my room, she wakes me up at all hours of the morning. Waking up to a cold, wet dog nose and a 30+ pound dog (they grow FAST) jumping all over you is not the most pleasant thing in the world. |
