| | Quote: | | The September 11 attacks (often referred to as September 11th or 9/11) were a series of coordinated suicide attacks by Al-Qaeda upon the United States on September 11, 2001. On that morning, 19 Al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four commercial passenger jet airliners. The hijackers intentionally crashed two of the airliners into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, killing everyone on board and many others working in the buildings. Both buildings collapsed within two hours, destroying nearby buildings and damaging others. The hijackers crashed a third airliner into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, just outside of Washington, D.C. The fourth plane crashed into a field near Shanksville in rural Pennsylvania, after some of its passengers and flight crew attempted to retake control of the plane, which the hijackers had redirected toward Washington, D.C. |
Of the four planes that crashed, there were no survivors, and 246 casualties. 2,728 people died in the Towers, the Pentagon, and those near the buildings. 200 people jumped to their deaths to escape the fires. 388 firefighters and EMTS died trying to save those people.
The 9-11 attacks are a big part of American history, and world history, as well.
I really wanted to post this yesterday, but something came up and I wasn't able to. It's important to me to post this, though, because it's a big deal to me. |

| Oh yeah I saw a video of this two years ago. It was terrible. Many people were talking about their lost family members and things like that. I can't beileve someone would do that though. That's why I'm afraid of planes sometimes. |

| You've only heard about it since two years ago? That surprises me. But yeah, it was really really sad. I was in....umm...I believe the second grade at that time. And I can still remember it. |

| My distant uncle survived it by...being late. Since he worked near the middle of the building. As much as I agree that this event has a large meaning, there was so much coverage on it back then. I could imagine the "people who created it" thinking "we've succeeded." The main fact I dislike all the media attention on it is because much of the broadcast put too much "feeling" over it. Isn't that what the "other side" wants? To cause fear and "American Hollywood-like media" made it more fearful. Compare it to other country's media, it's very different. I remember watching it from China news, Canadian news and British news as well. The huge amount of the American coverage (makes sense since it took place in America) and the excess drama put in is what bothers me. I find the media in this way (unrelated to 9/11) encourages people that "if they do this, their views will be on tv". Though putting that aside, that is in the past and is a little unrelated to this day. I would like it if they put more respect on the fallen a little more but that's my two cents. I give my respects to the victims, the unfortunate and the fallen people. | Quote: | | That's why I'm afraid of planes sometimes. |
Cars have higher accidental rates and kill more people than planes. When planes get into accidents, it's on the news more because it's more rare with more people on board at once. When it's in an accident, the impact is just more large so it's more noticeable. Don't let planes scare you. _____________________ -Birthday Sig by Shiki Retired. | Yeah, I was eating cereal before going to bed for school and my mom was watching Oprah Winfrey who was talking about it. When I saw the towers fall I was like "OMG! What the heck happened?" I was clueless...But when I went to school the next day, my teacher was talking about it. Then my mom showed me the video. It was sad. |

I'm one of the kinds of people who say to respect who died, but we need to forget about this some. Yeah, things do happen in the past, but that is over and we need to look to the future to prevent things like this from happening again. Yes, it was tragic. Yes, it affected a lot of us. But here is something, it proves America cares little about other countries. People from all over cried for America's loss, but do any of you know of the July 7, 2005 London bombings? Probably no if you live in America. (Yes, I'm an American. I don't live in europe.)
Earlier in this school year I had to write an 'in class essay' on what it means to be an american. I didn't say anything positive at all. I loved the teacher's comments like 'good structure' and 'is supported very well with evidence', but the one I like that I like the most has to be 'a harsh reality check.'
Oh! If you have plane phobia's follow these tips.
1.) Get on a plane with a ton of passangers. (Terroist hate them, cause they have to fight more to control the plane.)
2.) Avoid larger planes. (These tend to be the most explosive, cause they are loaded with jet fuel.)_____________________ | Quote: | Kazumi couldn't help but feel a bit nervous around Cody. I know what you mean and do agree. Just to clarify it for others, American people do care. It's just that they are exposed less to the news of the world; therefore, they won't be able to cry over losses such as the London bombings. I do blame this on American media. I find they prey so much on feelings and drama (points to sad music they use in many of their coverages which is unnecessary to tell news.)
But prove me wrong, perhaps some people do stay current on world news and has as much sympathy as those who do not know about the tragedies of the other countries.
My "Canadian" tv is heavily influenced on American television. During 9/11, it was all over television. Also there was this coverage about conspiracies about 9/11, but I won't get into that. I just hope New Yorker's will be able to recover. I'm sure many of them are still very very jumpy over this issue. Yes, it happened where they live. I would be cautious if I lived their too, but their wounds will heal over time. _____________________ -Birthday Sig by Shiki Retired. | Honestly, there's a large amount of conspiracy behind all this. It's hard to decide what is real and not about 9/11. I don't understand the war at all. I happen to be pro-war. But, this war is pointless, no reason to it except to find terrorists, which is effective to some extent. It's gonna be and already is another Vietnam. We have no specific objective. I'm sorry, we'll have to face it, we can't find ALL the terrorists, we can't even find one, the most important terrorist. Osama. Anyway, I don't know what to say, 9/11 happened and it may happen again. But, there's one problem. Obama, America's president. He's a peaceful man, which is respectful, but, there's a fine line between being peaceful and scared of what's going to happen enough so that he won't do anything. No offence, but I think there should be changes. Fix the war, then our country. From what I see in people and their lifestyles. We can hold out. WE shouldn't pay for the illegal immigrants or millions on welfare. Start being independant please. I'm not even gonna talk about George Bush, he made enough mistakes to mess this country up bad. Sorry if you liked him. I have my reasons. We have spent too much money on fixing our country when this war will just break it over and over it again. As long as more terrorists stand, there will always be danger. 9/11 was most likely terrorists and government fault, they didn't take the beginning attacks seriously enough. So it escalated. Angry Dante FTW. XD Even if we do catch Osama, they won't stop, a new leader will take his place, and it will continue for generations to come. Until we show that there are extremely bad consequences for their terrorists actions, they will not stop, for anything. The government needs to get their priorities straight. Enough said. I won't talk anymore, this page will get lengthy if I do. _____________________ "Remember, no matter how many plans are invented to be foolproof, life invents a bigger fool." I say "No! I will not sit by and regret the past! I will live in the present and anticipate the future!" Oh, by the way, I just got you to read a boring pointless text meant to make some joke at the end of this without true meaning. I am the 1%. By the way.......the game.

| I really don't like to get into politics about this sort of thing. There's all kinds of things that the government could've should've would've done to prevent this, or that they could change. But the fact of the matter is that people died. Lots of people died.
I am aware of the London bombings, and the tsunami in Indonesia, and the cyclone that hit Myanmar, and everything else that's messed up in this world, whether natural or man-made. Those are all as bad as 9-11, and the people who died in those disasters should be recognized as well. |

The same with my mother. She was supposed to be working up on the high levels of one of the towers, I don't remember which tower it was. My uncle and her were carpooling and he had to stop off somewhere and wanted to pick up some breakfast. I remember her telling me that my uncle had just told her how those towers were indestructible (He had helped build them), and as soon as he finished, they both watched the plane collide into the building. It's a scary thought... To think that I almost lost my mother to a terrorist. It gives me the chills just thinking about it.
It just upset me though how in my school, they actually forgot to do the memorial silence for it. But of course, my thoughts and prayers go out to all the victims who were affected; from a fellow New Yorker. |
