For English, I'm reading Huckleberry Finn and A Raisin in the Sun. Next quarter is Shakespeare time, with Macbeth and R&J. I'm finishing up the Iliad and the Odyssey on my own time.
For myself, I'm reading:
The Tenth Circle by Jodi Picoult (again)
Gone by Michael Grant
Marie, Dancing Mozart's Shadow Duchessina (All by Carolyn Meyer)
Hurt Go Happy by Ginny Rorby |

| Ugh... I can't list a few due to their titles. So far this school year I've read:
The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton (I had to read this for LA as an outside reading prodject. I hated it, I wished I picked a different one. I should have read the Grapes of Wrath or something of Steinbeck's.
The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin (It's quite intresting actually. I found some of the early jobs he had a bit unusual for him though. Oh! I read this for fun too.)
Canary Row by John Steinbeck
Something that has an innappropriate title by Jeffrey Eugenides (One of the best books ever though, ES you might like this one I think.)
The Almost Moon by Alice Sebold (In process of reading)
I hope to read a few more books like Catch 22 and Catcher in the Rye too. _____________________ | Quote: | Kazumi couldn't help but feel a bit nervous around Cody. | Yeah, Mice and Men I found quite sad at the end. I just love Stienbeck's style though, so that made up for it. Poor Lennie though, you could tell that the way George was acting that it'd end sort of that way. I mean the trips into town and all, still quite a depressing ending though. _____________________ | Quote: | Kazumi couldn't help but feel a bit nervous around Cody. | @Ballad: John is so awesome! In my class we read it and I was Elizabeth. xD
I'm obessed over one of my brothers books and want it for myself! (Too bad he isn't done with it.) It's called "The Accidental Mind" and is informative, sort of a first person essay. I love the writing style though! Otherwise I'm reading a sad, sad, sad book called "The Fixer" about an innocent russian jew being charged for murder all because he's jewish. Poor guy... :[ _____________________ | Quote: | Kazumi couldn't help but feel a bit nervous around Cody. He was unlike anyone she had ever seen before. | Wess doesn't pleasure read. He only RPs. But!~ He has been rereading his bios over and over and again and editing the. @_@ New bio I've been working a long time on: | Spoiler: | | | Name: Sutotto, Monika Age: 12 Sex: Female Height: 5'2"
Character Type: Shinobi
Country/Village: Konohagakure (Village Hidden in the Leaves) Rank: Genin Division: N/A
Physical Description: Sutotto, Monika has the "typical" ten year old girl appearance. She has long brown hair that looks like it takes forever to fix. It has blue ribbons woven throughout the frontal part (see picture); and another one tying back it back in a pony tail, which travels throughout the back of her hair, holding it in place. She has icy blue eyes, and thin, dark brown eyes brows with pretty, long eyelashes. She has a small now, and usually a smug, confident grin. (She doesn't have the moon symbol shown on her face on the picture.)
Clothing: Monika seems to wear all blue clothing. Have bandages wrapped around the base of her legs, she wears a light blue, frilly skirt under her jacket. The jacket is connected to long gloves, which her hands go into. They also open up to allow the fingers out, and throughout the gloves, there are 4 small slits (on each arm, a ribbon is woven through two of them, thus two ribbons can be equipped on each arm) that allow something like a ribbon to escape. Near the palm, there are two slits on both side, which allow usage of two more ribbons (one on each side). The jacket is colored a dark colored, navy looking blue; and has a light blue stripe, similar to her hair ribbons; which are woven throughout her separated hair; and which can be used as weapons when required. She's right handed; thus she carries her pouch on the right side, and kunai holster on the left. She also wears ribbon-like bandages under the shirt, which sort of act as shorts, and can be removed, and used as weaponry; when Monika is running low on ribbons, and desperate. She also wears high, dark blue colored ninja sandals, the same color as her jacket.
Personality: Sutotto, Monika is a hyperactive twelve year old girl. She's more excited about training than dating, so she constantly rebuffs anyone's attempt to ask her out. Trying her best always; she's not great at taking written exams, making her fill stupid at times. She teases people playfully often, although she doesn't like to be teased herself. Monika also pulls pranks on people she doesn't like. She seems to toy with her opponents, if their on her level or below, but if their stronger, she becomes rather serious. Also, in infiltration missions, she becomes rather cautious than usual, always alert for traps.

Biography:
A petite, 12 year old girl swung on the Academy swing, hidden in the Shadows. "You want to hear my story? I'm willing to tell.... Just don't tell anyone, okay?"
"I was born a normal baby, like nearly everyone else. I don't remember back then, but the latest memories I recall, were around when I was four. My dad kept leaving... And disappeared for days at a time. I kept asking where he was going, and he'd always reply 'Work,'. My mom was also disappearing at times opposite to my dad, and she replied only replied, 'I had something that needed to be done,' It was like they were trying to hide something for me, it was ridiculous. One day, they both left on a mission together. I was left with my grandma, she was more of my mom, than my real one; and a lot prettier too, even though she was a few decades older. My grandma, she always wore fancy bows, and trinkets that had little dangles of cloth on them. There were never more than two on her at a time, something I never really understood; there were three sockets on each bracelet you could insert cloth into. I think you're beginning to get the picture. Yes, my parents attempted to hide the Shinobi World from me; for that reason, we never went out to eat, and I rarely left home. But still, I probably would of known before, had I any memories from early-early childhood; or understood what my parents were saying then. Thanks to my Grandma, though, I learned of the Shinobi World. Allow me to continue," "Anyways, it was almost Christmas, and I was still four,"
"Grandma..... Ferocious woman if you cross her. Eheh...." the girl chuckles, continuing on with her story. "My grandma accidentally showed me her special technique, dealing with the ribbons she wore. Apparently, there had been a package delay... And the packages wouldn't be there until Christmas day," "My grandma, of course, freaked. I don't think she realized what she was doing, but the strands of cloth on her bracelets, they increased drastically in length; at least two feet. They split open, forming claw-like hands. They gripped onto the one supposed to be delivering the packages, and my grandma whispered something in his ear, which clearly disturbed him. She released him, and he ran off," "I watched the entire thing through the window, and when my grandma returned, I asked her how she had done that. My grandma was obviously shocked, but knew my parents couldn't protect me forever,"
"So, she told me all that she could, and gave me a few ribbons of my own, the ones that are in my hair now. She showed me all she could do, which scared me to death. Eventually, my parents came back home, and they freaked out on my Grandma,"
"It was kind off ironic, I mean, I was little, and they managed to hide the Shinobi world from me easily. I really didn't see anyone outside of my family, so I was rather close to them. The family feud continued for about a month, and calmed down shortly after, when my Grandma's presents came in. She sent them as apology presents, which my parents oddly accepted. There was also a certificate in the lot for me.... It said I would be going to the Ninja Academy,"
"So, a few months after I turned five, I joined in the Academy. I was covered in ribbons, and always wore a flowing kimono into class, along with tons of ribbons throughout my hair. There, I picked up the loving name, 'Ribbon Freak'. We practiced and practiced techniques for years, and we eventually came into Chakra. We studied for months, and about after we began trying to perform our Jutsu (it was a weekend); my parents went on another mission."
"My grandma had high hopes for me, and began to show me how to manipulate the ribbons. Loaning me one of her bracelets, she began to talk about how to send your chakra from your body into them, making them a deft limb. I worked my way up from small, flimsy ribbons, to metal ones, two feet in length. After I managed to become rather manipulating them, which took years- I was eleven before I was finished with it all; and I started when I was... About seven, maybe? Anyways..."
The girl became teary eyed.
"A messenger came... It wasn't long ago..... It said my parents were MIA, which I cried and cried over. It gave us a brief, but censored manuscript of what was going on, and how my parents were believed to be killed, while stalling Snow ninjas in an attempt for the others of their 10-man team to escape,"
"My grandma and I didn't speak about it much after the first week or so, we were trying to protect each other, in my opinion. Several weeks after, my grandma showed me how to use the Ribbon Wielding Technique more effectively. I learned to make that claw she made, a sword, how to increase the length of my ribbons, and a small version of Genjutsu, which leaves "copies" of the moved ribbons, like you'd see something being played back slowly, that's moving at a high speed; thus creating 'illusions'."
"Around that time, I began to pull pranks. From minor stuff, such as mixing up girl's purses, to making graffiti, and signed it, "The Mischievous Ribbon Freak". It's true, I'm not nice. But oh well, it's fun, and gives me a fun hobby... Heh,"
"I graduated the academy a bit ago, I just performed a few jutsu, stuff I'm never gonna use. The written exam was the hardest part though. It made me feel stupid. But I did okay. Heh... B's aren't that bad, are they?"
"And now, we get to where we are now.... I'm currently waiting on a squad opening. I wonder when I'll get one.... Oh! You can't tell anyone about this sob, okay? Don't want to ruin my reputation as the 'Mischievous Ribbon Freak'; okay? Got it, get it, good."
Other Info: N/A
Writing Example:
"Eh....." came the voice of Monika's grandmother. She knocked on the entrance to her granddaughter's room, and entered a short time afterward.
Monika sat on a cushion, tying back her hair with the ribbons. "What is it, Grandma?" she asks.
"Oh, well if you talk like that, I'll never give you the good news,"
"....Grandma, what's happened?" Monika said, she soon finished tying her hair back, then she threw on her jacket, and began to tie her bandages around her leg.
"We've found you a Jonin Leader," Monika's grandmother said, grinning wide, to show her pure white teeth, which were undoubtedly "false teeth".
Monika jumped from the surprising news. Wrapping her bandages around the rest of her legs, she ran over to her dresser, and pulled out a packed pouch, and clipped it onto her jacket, and put on her kunai holster. "Where is he?"
"He's at the Hero's Monument..."
"What are we waiting for? Come on, let's go!" she shouted energetically, throwing herself towards her grandmother, interlocking her in a hug.
"Oh heh... Okay, this way,"
The two soon exited the house, walking towards the Hero's Monument, which was a considerable distance away. The two had a small conversation on the way down there, but all Monika remembered from it was her Grandma telling her 'Not to rush into things' and 'Respect your Sensei'. Monika was well aware of the 'respect' thing, but she always 'rushed into things'; and nothing bad happened yet, so what now?"
As the two turned the clearing, they arrived at the Hero's Monument.
There, she found her Sensei and teammates waiting for her. She rushed up to them, ready to converse....
