Sekhmet's Flames

Her flames echo in beauty
Her flames echo her strength
In Her flames, life is kindled
In Her flames, isfet is destroyed
The warmth of Her flames comfort
The sting of Her flames discipline
I am wrapped in Her warmth
I am protected by Her flames
She shows me my own strength
Lending Hers when it is needed
She has forged my soul in the flames of Her love
Like tempered steel I have been made
I can withstand my oppressors
I can cut through their assaults
Their tongues are not as sharp as my strength
They throw their claims, their insults
But they have been made weak by their own contempt
My strength resonates with She who created my soul
My ba is strong, my ka is focused
Sekhmet's love is my reward
And Her flames are my sanctuary

Very interesting, very beautiful. Sekhmet is an Egyptian goddess, is that correct? I don't much much about her, but this poem does an excellent job of capturing the essence of the goddess. Very nicely done. C:

Yes. She is the Daughter of Ra and known as the power of the sun. Lady who can prevent or cause plague, Defender of the just, the One Who punishes the wicked, and a Goddess of healing. She's one of the fiercer Goddesses, but still a caring and loving Goddess as well.

Very nice poem. It made me to search about the character it is all about. Sekhmet was the lioness-headed Egyptian goddess of war and destruction. There are many interesting stories about her. farao queen

Destruction and war is one side of Her. As with all Egyptian Deities, They all have a duality nature. For Sekhmet, war, destruction and plague are the darker sides, while protection, healing and enforcement of justice are Her positives. And just to clarify, She is not one who creates war, but acts to guide warriors caught up in war, guiding them to victory and safety.

Darkness

This darkness, does it have a name?
This hate, this injustice
How did it find us?
Did it slip into our lives?
Did we seek it out and embrace it?
What happened to us?
Why is it we now send our children into the world
As we would send soldiers out into the battlefield?
That though we may pray for their safe return
We know that not all will return home alive.
When did we lose our way?
To be consumed by shadows,
To be swallowed up by the darkness.

This darkness, does it have a name?

Is it your name?
