Elizbeth stood on the beach feeling the cool breeze of spring blow through her long black hair. she took a moment to recount the events of her trip with her brother. A small pang of sadness washed over her as she also thought of the accident that stole her brother and father from her. Elizbeth kicked the sand and watched in fall on the fold of her black dress. Elizbeth breathed in deeply as she rolled up her right sleeve and checked the scars that plainly stood out of her pale skin.

What was Gabriel doing? Thinking, supposedly.
Two years had passed since he moved here. He walked to the beach with his usual cigarrette burning in his mouth, the white trail of smoke polluting the fresh spring air. Being a doctor who smoked was a tad ironic, it was like he was trying to make himself terminal. Not that he really cared though. His wife had divorced him and he had to send her child support for his son Joshua. Life really headed where he thought it never was. At least he was happy here.

A woman with dark hair stood at the beach. Gabriel was curious of what she was doing, but at first he stood his distance. Maybe the woman wanted to be alone and he'd grant that to her. She rolled up her sleeve to reveal a scar to which Gabriel couldn't help but react, "Oww... that looks painful."

Elizbeth flustered and rolled her sleeve down. She Turned to see a man taller than her, before she could stop herself she blurted "It did, but that was a long time ago." Elizbeth turned back towards the ocean and kicked the sand again "14 years ago." Elizbeth turned back towards the man again, "But that's none of your concern."

The woman must have thought she was alone because she immediatly rolled her sleeve back down. She seemed frustrated at him or herself as she kicked at the sand and sort of snapped at him. "Relax," he said switching his cigarette to the otherside of his mouth. "We all have things that we don't like talking about, so the fact that I said that your scar looked like it hurt was just an observation. I wasn't looking for a whole background about the subject-sheesh. You sound like my ex-wife."

"No, you misunderstand I- I wasn't angry." Elizbeth crossed her arms "It... it's just..." she shifted her feet in the sand "it brings back painful memories that's all." Elizbeth uncrossed her arms and rubbed the back of her neck. "I'm sorry I'm not making a good first impression am I?" Elizbeth looked up at the man her normal large smile plastered on her face. "I'm Elizbeth Jones."

She looked conflicted as she explained she wasn't angry at him. Her feet shifted in the sand while she talked and he took note of the deep contrast her hair and clothes had on her pale skin. It was practically white compared to the sand. "Who really is good at them?" Gabriel asked. "I don't typically care about them, so I don't appear to be a proffessional like I am, so I don't make the best of them too."

"I'm Dr. Cunningham," he said shifting his cigarrette in his mouth yet again. "Most people call me Gabe or Gabriel here, it's a rather casual place to live. No one refers to anyone by their last name."

Elizbeth smile faltered "A doctor? Who smokes?" The idea seemed ridiculous to her "pardon me for asking but, isn't that," once again her feet shifted in the sand. "I donno." Elizbeth scratched her right arm. "Contradictory to your profession?" she surprised her self with this remark. She'd said things like that to people befor ebut never to anyone she'd just met.

"Yes, but not really to me since I'm not an oncologist," Gabriel laughed at her question. Smoking then would be unusual since he'd be someone that'd treat cancer. Then again he was a diagnostic specialist, so it was weird there. There was no way he was going to quit because he was a doctor though.

He wasn't quite sure why he smoked. Maybe it was to rebel against his standard upbringing or strict parents. Maybe it was because he failed at life. Maybe it was because he felt like his existance didn't matter. Honestly, Gabriel could care less about that. Right now he only focused on enjoyment and smoking was something he enjoyed. It didn't matter to him if he didn't out live his friends.

Then only conclusion that Elizbeth could come up with about this man was that he was very odd. "I see," she said although she could hardly see why any kind doctor smoked. None the less she still smiled at him, "It was nice to meet you," she walked over to him so she was within hand shaking distance, she held her right hand out.
