She came in the typical fashion - boat - but arrived in her own unique way.

"Hellooooo Sunshine Island! Maya Lee is here, and she is here to stay!" Her bright voice echoed around the beach - and possibly around the entire island...and the neighbouring towns too.
She sat on the pier, dangling her legs over the edge as she waited for her case to be set down next to her. A few people rushed past, whispering as they did, but Maya didn't care what they thought. She was about to start her life, away from her parents and brother for the first time.
So they could say she was childish and wouldn't surivive one day; this was proof that she was an adult.
