I think it happens instantly'(maybe not...it's been a while) just wait a season or so or a week and see...and you play until she is pregnant and gives birth...then it skips till the kid is four

I think you mean that you gave her the Blue Feather and she accepted, right?
You don't get married until the end of the game year, regardless of whether or not she accepted if you proposed earlier than in the Winter. Once you're married, the game skips forward and you'll have a child together.
